Help

We are in need of some help. Our home visit with our social worker is coming up in the next week and we are seriously unsure about what we need to do. I know all home study agencies and social workers are different;however, surely some things are the same across the board. Please let me know what to expect and any advice all of you out there have to offer.

Oh, and here is the picture of the kids' room I promised.

It is hard to see but the curtains, sheets, and duvet covers are all gingham. The curtains are covered with gingham stars. The dog picture on the wall hung in Ty's nursery. We might have to change to cribs later but we will see...

I almost forgot! We are minus one bathtub but we have a floor. Maybe Ty will write about the adventures...

The homestudy will ask you about your childhoods, parenting plans, family lives, etc. My tip: have kleenex on hand, I got all weepy. Our house was not baby-proofed when ours came...

We are mostly curious about the home inspection. Do we have to have the house child-proofed?

nope, no child proofing necessary. However, we did go ahead and put our pool fence back up. We have a pool, and had taken down the pool fence when our son learned to swim. However, we put it back up for the visit. It was very low key. She was so nice and just asked us questions about ourselves and our family. It was very non stressful. Don't sweat it.

Our home study inspection was quick and painless. I was so worried that he was going to do a "white glove check" but it was not that thourough. We didn't have all the babyproofing done yet when we had our inspection. We actually had not even finished converting the baby's room from our office to his bedroom yet. The crib and some toys and clothes were in there, but so was the desk and computer. We told him that we were working on converting it and that we would be painting it soon.

He actually spent more time sitting at the table talking with us and our kids than he did looking at the house. We just gave him a quick tour of the house. He looked in each room very briefly. I have heard the same from many other people I have talked to.

Great questions- great answers. I've started to wonder the same thing. Geez- I was a mess just to take the pictures for our agency application... what-oh-what will I be like when someone actually comes into our home?? I can't wait to hear how great it goes!

The only things they really checked for were smoke alarms, fire extinguisher, and dust bunnies under the bed. Kidding about the last part. Seriously, it was soooo low key. I cleaned for 9 hours straight and our SW barely even looked at the house. But we did get a clean house!
